RealEstate.com Launches Android Compatible Website

More than 2 million nationwide real estate listings are now at your fingertips, courtesy of your new Android handset. Also released for iPhone, the website gives easy access to listings and provides one touch access to maps, photos, and more.

We played with this website for a few minutes and found it to be really easy to navigate. Simply plug in your desired location (ZIP) and see what's available. We found a house going for 1.34M just 10 minutes away from AndroidGuys HQ!

When you first pull the site up, you have options to filter the results by price, number of bedrooms, and dwelling types. The transition between pages gave the impression of a native app running. It's a smooth scrolling slide from panel to panel as you advance through the listings.

We noticed lengthy descriptions, listing numbers, and plenty of photos for each house we encountered. Even over the EDGE network, we found the site loaded fast enough to keep our interest.

To read more or try it out, check out http://www.realestate.com/android or a.re.com on your Android handset!

RealEstate.com Unleashes on Android, iPhone

Cassimir Medford

RealEstate.com on Monday unveiled mobile web sites for Google's Android and Apple's iPhone.

The RealEstate.com mobile versions return listing of more than homes 2 million U.S. homes based on location, price, and size.

Internet-based real estate sites are attempting to piggyback on the popularity of smartphones to enlist a wider audience in a market gone to hell.

GPS-enabled 3G phones with satellite maps have given such digital real estate sites the added ability to offer driving directions and enhanced property details.

A recent survey from RealEstate.com's rival Trulia said there is a deepening crisis of confidence among homebuyers. More than 70 percent of those that don't own homes in the United States said they have no plans to purchase a new home in the next year.

"We see it as a time to shine by telling people we are here to provide information on home values, mortgages," said Greg Hanson, a vice president at RealEstate.com. "And we are not just a web site like many of our competitors."

Unlike rivals Trulia and Zillow.com, Charlotte, North Carolina-based RealEstate.com is not a standalone company. It is part of LendingTree, an online lending exchange that connects consumers and lenders.

RealEstate.com operates as a brokerage in 14 markets with about 1,000 agents who work directly for the company. In the rest of the country RealEstate.com has a network of 300 independent real estate firms to which it feeds leads.

"We are adding mobile apps with the hope that when buyers are interested enough they will come to us," Mr. Hanson said. "We don't depend on our advertisers to pick up the ball when the consumer clicks through."

A month ago RealEstate.com unveiled a mobile phone real estate app for AT&T and Sprint Nextel phone subscribers.

Trulia, Zillow, Yahoo! pioneer listings data standard

Inman News

Nearly a dozen Web sites that aggregate for-sale real estate listings -- including Trulia, Zillow and Yahoo! Real Estate -- have agreed to adopt common data standards that will make it possible for brokers to send a single listings feed to multiple Web sites. The companies partnering to develop the new data standard, which will be based on the XML format and launched later this year, are working with the Real Estate Standards Organization to make sure it is compatible with the existing Real Estate Transaction Standard (RETS). The standardized data format will include price, square feet, bedrooms, bathrooms and additional descriptions of each listing. Homes.com, Homescape, Oodle, Point2 Technologies, Realestate.com, Vast.com and vFlyer are also adopting the standardized feed format, which is open to "anybody else who wants to join us," Zillow spokeswoman Amanda Hoffman said. "It's a statement to the community -- we want to make it easier for you to get your listings in front of as many people as possible."

Local real estate firm bought

Arizona Daily Start

A local real estate firm specializing in big-ticket sales has evidently proven its worth to a national Web-based firm. Charlotte, N.C.-based RealEstate.com has purchased Distinctive Homes and Land, a former Windermere franchise. The sale, which closed last week, came to delight of the agency's broker, Nikki Mehalic-Halle...RealEstate.com, which is owned by LendingTree, has been working to establish operations in Tucson since January, when it opened its first local office, said John Dwyer, RealEstate.com market leader for Tucson. Dwyer said RealEstate.com was attracted to Distinctive Homes and Land's corporate culture and sales numbers. The agency focuses mainly on the upper end, which has not suffered much in the broader real estate slowdown.
